What is APIC

APIC is the Portuguese Association of Conference Interpreters founded in 1987 by a group of independent conference interpreters. The objective behind this institutional framework was to ensure that the high standards of quality required for conference interpreting were met in Portugal.

In accordance with the Code of Ethics – APIC’s reference guidelines - the Association’s aim is to ensure suitable working conditions for interpreters to perform their demanding work, to protect members’ rights, promote cooperation amongst conference interpreting professionals and between them and other related institutions, and also to develop the best vocational training for conference interpreters.

Therefore, APIC members are highly qualified interpreters, whose admission depends on the assessment of their skills by a jury of professional interpreters.
APIC has been acknowledged by national and international organisations (governmental and non-governmental), corporations and cultural and scientific institutions, and is proud to see the merit of its members ratified by the Presidency of the Republic, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the European Commission and the European Parliament, amongst other prestigious institutions.

APIC is represented at the Advisory Council on Translation and Interpreting within the National Trade Union for Tourism, Translation and Interpreting, and on the Task Force for the creation of an Oath Council under the Ministry of Justice.
